Day 1 · West Lake and the nearby city
Start on the north or east side; choose a shorter walk
Use the lakeside near Hubin as a simple starting area. Walk toward Broken Bridge (断桥), continue along Bai Causeway (白堤), and explore Gushan (孤山). If you still have energy and the weather is comfortable, add part of Su Causeway (苏堤). Treat these as linked options, not a checklist you must finish.
For the late afternoon, either rest by the lake or continue toward the historic streets east of the water. Check live maps and attraction opening information before making a paid-site detour.
湖滨断桥 · 白堤Day 2 · Lingyin, then choose one nearby extra
Lingyin Feilai Peak
Visit only after you have a successful timed reservation. The current official notice says admission is free, but real-name advance booking is required and a same-day advance reservation is not available. See the passport reservation guide.
Pick one, not three
If you have time and energy, consider the Longjing tea area (龙井村) on the western side. Otherwise return to the lake, visit a museum or garden after checking its current hours, or leave the afternoon open for a slower meal and rest.
No reservation? Do not build the day around unofficial promises of guaranteed entry. Replace Lingyin with a West Lake route or another attraction whose current admission and opening conditions you have checked.
Small choices that prevent a stressful day
- Keep the train arrival and hotel check-in on a separate half-day when possible; stations and transfers take time.
- Use the official reservation notice for Lingyin rather than older articles showing the previous ticket prices.
- Check weather and current local transport notices. Weekend or holiday access can differ from a quiet weekday.
- If you are traveling with children, older adults, or limited mobility, shorten the walk and confirm accessible routes at the specific attraction.
